📍 Place du Casino ★★★★★ 5-star from €850 (indicative)
If you only know one hotel in Monaco, it is this one. The Hôtel de Paris was built by the Société des Bains de Mer in 1864 as the anchor of a brand-new resort quarter, and the Place du Casino was laid out around it. Everyone from Churchill to the Grand Prix winners has stayed here, and the lobby — with the bronze horse whose leg gamblers still rub for luck — is a genuine piece of Riviera history.
The 2014–2018 renovation was more than a refresh: the building was partly rebuilt around a new open-air patio, the room count dropped so that every remaining room got bigger, and a set of terraced suites was added on the upper floors. The Suite Princesse Grace has a private pool looking straight down at the Casino.
Downstairs is Le Louis XV – Alain Ducasse, which in 1990 became the first hotel restaurant anywhere to hold three Michelin stars, and the cellar beneath it holds around 350,000 bottles cut into the rock. A private lift takes guests to the Thermes Marins Monte-Carlo, the SBM spa shared with the Hermitage next door.
What stands out
- Le Louis XV – Alain Ducasse, three Michelin stars
- Direct lift access to the Thermes Marins spa
- Steps from the Casino de Monte-Carlo

The rate above is an indicative low-season starting point, not a quote. Live prices are
on Trip.com (we earn a commission if you book through that link, at no extra cost to
you) or you can book directly with the hotel. Monaco hotels apply multi-night
minimums and substantially higher rates during the Grand Prix in late May and the Yacht
Show in September.
Getting there
Nice Côte d'Azur airport is the gateway: roughly 30 minutes by car or helicopter
transfer, 45 minutes by the express bus, or an hour by train with a change. If you are
arriving by train, Monaco-Monte-Carlo station is built into the rock in the middle of
the country, and every hotel on this site is a short taxi or a walk-plus-lift away —
Monaco's network of public lifts and escalators does most of the climbing for you.
